What fits in a 10-yard dumpster?

A 10-yard dumpster holds about 3–5 pickup-truck loads of debris. Typical jobs that fit are listed below. These are typical examples, not limits; the weight of the debris decides the final bill more than the space it takes.

  • A bathroom gut down to the studs (tile, vanity, tub, drywall)
  • About 150–250 sq ft of 4-inch concrete patio, loaded half full
  • A one-car garage or a single room of clutter
  • Dirt or sod from a small landscaping or pool-prep dig

Will a 10-yard dumpster go over the weight limit?

A 10-yard dumpster includes 2 tons (4,000 lb). Concrete is the material that most often goes over. At the EPA factor of about 860 lb per cubic yard, 2 tons is only about 4.7 cubic yards of broken concrete. That is why heavy loads stop at half full.

Worked example: your 10-yard includes 2 tons. The scale ticket shows 2.31 tons net. You pay for 0.31 tons (620 lb) at $75 per ton, which is $23.25. We charge the exact pound and never round up to the next ton.

Will a 10-yard dumpster fit in my driveway?

The 10-yard dumpster needs a level spot about 12 feet long and 8 feet wide. The roll-off truck typically needs about 60 feet of straight approach and about 23 feet of overhead clearance to set it down. Our drivers place wooden boards under the steel rails so concrete and asphalt do not crack or scratch.

Keep the spot clear of parked cars, low wires and locked gates. If the driver arrives and cannot place the bin, a $125 trip fee applies. Driveway and street placement guide.

Is the 10-yard the right size, or should I go up or down?

Too small means a second haul, and a swap is billed as a new flat-rate rental. Too big means paying for space you do not fill. When volume is the question and the debris is light, round up. When the debris is heavy, the weight limit decides, not the volume.

10-yard dumpster questions

How many pickup loads fit in a 10-yard dumpster?

About 3 to 5 pickup loads, assuming an 8-foot pickup bed loaded level holds about 2 to 3 cubic yards. Bulky furniture fills it faster than flat debris.

Can I fill a 10-yard dumpster with concrete?

Concrete, dirt, brick and similar dense debris can go in the 10-yard only up to the halfway line on the walls. A full bin of concrete would be far over the legal road weight for the truck.

Is a 10-yard dumpster big enough for a bathroom remodel?

One full bathroom gut usually fits. Two bathrooms or a bathroom plus new flooring through the house usually needs the 15-yard.

How low are the walls on a 10-yard dumpster?

The walls are about 3.5 feet tall, the lowest of our sizes. That makes it easier to lift heavy pieces over the side.
