What size dumpster do you need for yard waste?

For yard waste work, the table matches the job to a size. Shrub and brush clearing usually fits a 10 or 15-yard. Every size includes 7 days and 2 to 6 tons, and weight over that is $75 per ton by the exact pound.

Yard jobTypical sizeWhy
Shrub and brush clearing10 or 15-yardBrush is light, about 250 lb/yd³ loose
Fence tear-out15-yardPanels and posts; concrete footings are heavy
Large lot or storm cleanup20-yardLimbs and bulky brush
Sod and soil10 or 15-yard, half fullDirt is heavy debris
Typical fits; weight decides the bill. Compare sizes.

How much will your yard waste debris weigh?

Loose yard trimmings average about 250 lb per cubic yard (EPA), so brush fills space long before weight. Sod and soil count as heavy debris.

Where should the dumpster go for yard waste work?

Pick a spot the truck can reach without crossing soft lawn or septic lids. Cut long limbs so they lie flat below the rim.

For yard waste jobs, as on every delivery, our drivers set the bin on wooden boards to protect concrete and asphalt. A $125 trip fee applies if the bin can't be placed because of cars, wires or locked gates. Placement guide.

Which rules apply to yard waste debris?

DFW city curb programs limit brush by length, bundle weight and pile size, and many counties restrict burning. A dumpster avoids both limits.

General information, not legal advice. Confirm with your city, HOA or permit office.

What if the job runs long or the bin fills early?

Big clearing jobs may need a swap; each swap is a new flat-rate rental.

What can't go in?

Not allowed in the dumpster

  • Batteries

Take these to a household hazardous waste drop-off. Full list and where items go.

Yard waste dumpster questions

Can I put tree stumps in the dumpster?

Stumps can go in, but they are heavy and awkward. Count them toward your weight estimate.

Can sod and dirt go with brush?

Sod and dirt are heavy debris, limited to the 10 or 15-yard, half full.

Is a dumpster better than city brush pickup?

City brush pickup limits limb length, bundle weight and pile size. A dumpster takes the whole job at once.

Can I burn brush instead?

Many North Texas counties restrict outdoor burning and declare burn bans. Check your county page.
