What size dumpster do you need for concrete & dirt?

For concrete & dirt work, the table matches the job to a size. Broken concrete usually fits a 10 or 15-yard, half full. Every size includes 7 days and 2 to 6 tons, and weight over that is $75 per ton by the exact pound.

Heavy materialTypical sizeWhy
Broken concrete10 or 15-yard, half fullAbout 860 lb per cubic yard (EPA)
Dirt and sand10 or 15-yard, half fullAbout 929 lb per cubic yard (EPA)

Mixed heavy and light debris10 or 15-yardNot eligible for clean-fill pricing
Typical fits; weight decides the bill. Compare sizes.

How much will your concrete & dirt debris weigh?

Half of a 10-yard is about 5 cubic yards. At EPA's 860 lb per cubic yard for concrete, that is about 4,300 lb, about 2.15 tons, just over the 2 tons included. That small overage costs about $11 at $75 per ton by the pound.

Where should the dumpster go for concrete & dirt work?

Heavy loads should sit on concrete or asphalt, never soft lawn. Our boards spread the weight on your driveway.

For concrete & dirt jobs, as on every delivery, our drivers set the bin on wooden boards to protect concrete and asphalt. A $125 trip fee applies if the bin can't be placed because of cars, wires or locked gates. Placement guide.

Which rules apply to concrete & dirt debris?

Heavy debris goes only in the 10-yard and 15-yard, loaded no higher than halfway up the walls, because a full bin would exceed legal highway weight. A load of one clean material, such as concrete only, qualifies for clean-fill pricing.

General information, not legal advice. Confirm with your city, HOA or permit office.

What if the job runs long or the bin fills early?

Big patios and driveways often need more than one heavy load. Each swap is a new flat-rate rental.

Concrete & dirt dumpster questions

Why can concrete only fill half the dumpster?

Concrete is so dense that a full bin would exceed the truck's legal road weight. Half full keeps the load legal and near the included tons.

What is clean-fill pricing?

A load of one unmixed heavy material, such as concrete only or dirt only, qualifies for special clean-fill pricing. Trash or wood mixed in disqualifies it.

Which dumpster sizes take concrete?

Only the 10-yard and 15-yard take concrete, dirt, brick and sand, loaded halfway.

How much concrete fits in a 10-yard?

About 5 cubic yards, loaded halfway, which is about 2.15 tons at the EPA average.
