What fits in a 15-yard dumpster?
A 15-yard dumpster holds about 5–7 pickup-truck loads of debris. Typical jobs that fit are listed below. These are typical examples, not limits; the weight of the debris decides the final bill more than the space it takes.
- A two-car garage cleanout
- A small roof, about 12–15 squares of one-layer asphalt shingles
- Carpet and pad from most of a house, or a large deck tear-off
- Brick or concrete from a medium patio, loaded half full
Will a 15-yard dumpster go over the weight limit?
A 15-yard dumpster includes 2.5 tons (5,000 lb). Roof shingles are the usual reason a 15-yard goes over. With bundles at about 70–80 lb and 3 bundles per square, one square is about 210–240 lb, so 2.5 tons covers roughly 20 squares at most, before any decking or nails.
Worked example: your 15-yard includes 2.5 tons. The scale ticket shows 2.74 tons net. You pay for 0.24 tons (480 lb) at $75 per ton, which is $18.00. We charge the exact pound and never round up to the next ton.

Will a 15-yard dumpster fit in my driveway?
The 15-yard dumpster needs a level spot about 16 feet long and 7.5 feet wide. The roll-off truck typically needs about 60 feet of straight approach and about 23 feet of overhead clearance to set it down. Our drivers place wooden boards under the steel rails so concrete and asphalt do not crack or scratch.
Keep the spot clear of parked cars, low wires and locked gates. If the driver arrives and cannot place the bin, a $125 trip fee applies. Driveway and street placement guide.
Is the 15-yard the right size, or should I go up or down?
Too small means a second haul, and a swap is billed as a new flat-rate rental. Too big means paying for space you do not fill. When volume is the question and the debris is light, round up. When the debris is heavy, the weight limit decides, not the volume.

15-yard dumpster questions
What is the difference between a 15-yard and a 20-yard dumpster?
The 15-yard is 16 feet long and holds 2.5 tons; the 20-yard is 22 feet long and holds 3 tons. Pick the 15-yard for a garage or small roof, the 20-yard for a kitchen or whole-house cleanout.
Can a 15-yard dumpster take concrete or dirt?
The 15-yard is one of our two heavy-debris sizes. Dense material can fill it only to the halfway line, and a clean, unmixed load qualifies for clean-fill pricing.
Will a 15-yard dumpster fit in a two-car driveway?
The 15-yard is 16 feet long and 7.5 feet wide, so it usually fits on one side of a two-car driveway with room left to walk by.
How many squares of shingles fit in a 15-yard dumpster?
By weight, about 20 squares of one-layer asphalt shingles is the ceiling before overage. Check your bundle weight on the wrapper, because heavier architectural shingles lower that number.
