Local rules

Do you need a permit or a special hauler for a dumpster in Dallas?

Dallas grants solid waste collection franchises by City Council ordinance for commercial, industrial and multifamily properties (City Code Sec. 18-37). A dumpster on your own driveway is the simplest placement. Before every booking, we check the hauler and placement rules for your address so the bin can legally be set down.

Hauler rules: the detail

The city's franchise page does not name roll-off or construction containers, and the Sanitation franchise unit answers questions by email. Before we book a Dallas job we confirm the hauler rules for your property type. Source: City of Dallas

What city curb pickup won't handle

Dallas collects brush and bulky trash once a month, up to 10 cubic yards, but excludes construction debris, roofing shingles, dirt and tires. Over-limit or prohibited set-outs are billed $60 per 5 cubic yards. Source: City of Dallas

City rules checked October 21, 2026. Rules change; confirm with the city before street placement.

Disposal

Where does the debris go, and what can't go in?

The City of Dallas runs McCommas Bluff Landfill at 5100 Youngblood Rd, plus transfer stations such as Northwest (Bachman) at 9500 Harry Hines Blvd for residents and small loads. Your scale ticket names the facility that weighed your load. Hazardous chemicals, wet paint and batteries never go in the dumpster; the local drop-off option is below.

Placement

What should you check before the drop?

About 60% of Dallas housing is renter-occupied, so tenants usually need the owner's or property manager's OK before a roll-off goes in. Check the points below, then confirm your spot by phone or send a photo with your quote request.

  • About 60% of Dallas housing is renter-occupied, so tenants usually need the owner's or property manager's OK before a roll-off goes in.
  • Brush and bulky piles must sit 5 feet from carts, mailboxes and poles and not under low limbs or power lines; the same overhead clearance matters for a roll-off truck.
  • Older East Dallas neighborhoods such as Munger Place and Swiss Avenue have narrow driveways and mature trees, so measure the drop spot and look up before booking.

Sizes

Which size fits your project?

City bulk pickup: 10 cu yd a month, no roofing or remodel debris. Anything bigger fits a roll-off: a 20-yard for most remodels and roofs, a 10 or 15-yard for concrete or dirt, and a 30 or 40-yard for construction.

Dallas dumpster rental questions

Will Dallas pick up my remodeling debris at the curb?

Many Dallas homes are alley-served, but alleys are city right-of-way and often too narrow for the truck to set the bin. Plan on the driveway and call us to check the access.
